Yahoo! tosses HotJobs to Monster – Search Fail?

Goodbye Yahoo! HotJobs, hello BIG Monster! Yahoo! HotJobs has been acquired by Monster® for $225M in cash. The acquisition promises to present more opportunities to employers, job seekers and those doing business with Monster.com. I’m sure this is a big win for Monster, but what does this say about Yahoo!?

Yahoo! tosses HotJobs to Monster – Search Fail?Maybe this is a first casualty in Yahoo! losing the search battle. HotJobs has been heavily criticized as having one of the worst job search features out there. Users of the portal complain about getting jobs that have little to do with their search delivered to their mailbox daily.

In a message to HotJobs users, the Yahoo! Transition Team promised that “…Monster’s search technology will match your skills to open positions with unrivaled precision.” Monster’s CEO Sal Iannuzzi further reported that they-

“…now have a powerful one-two punch of scale and precision – the largest pool of seekers and jobs, coupled with our 6Sense semantic search technology that allows unrivaled ability to match talent and opportunities.”

Although Monster will have access to all HotJobs’ assets, users will have to choose to give Yahoo! permission to transfer their information to Monster.com. The transition is scheduled to wrap up in early 2011.
